A couple of comments from Eric Holder as he was being questioned by Congress on how his department handled the Black Panther voter intimidation case.
“When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia-which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people,”
“I would disagree very vehemently with the notion that there’s overwhelming evidence that that is in fact true…This Department of Justice does not enforce the law in a race-conscious way.”
And one from a Philadephia Democratic Representative, Chaka Fattah
“The most unethical thing a person can do is make allegations based on absolutely nothing…The only issue of race is singling out this particular decision…That this rises to national significance is bogus on its face.”
It appears Mr. Holder and those around him trying to defend the actions of the Obama administration are getting pretty defensive. That usually happens when you have done something wrong. They were also trying to downplay the seriousness of what happened. Also a tactic to try to cover your actions.
But this is very serious. As pointed out by this list of characters involved with the case, Christian Adams “testified under oath that he was told by Voting Section management that [Julie] Fernandes gave instructions that no more cases would be brought against black defendants for the benefit of white victims. He also testified that, in his presence, Fernandes told Voting Section career staff that the Obama Administration had no interest in enforcing Section 8 of the Motor Voter law because it has nothing to do with increasing voter turnout. Section 8 requires states to remove ineligible voters from their voting rolls.”
So these allegations are not based upon absolutely nothing and it does appear that the current DOJ led by Eric Holder does enforce the law in a race-conscious way. There is also evidence that high level DOJ personnel have lied about the case to both the public and the US Commission on Civil Rights.
The Holder DOJ is certainly showing partiality in their judgments. Not only is this counter to rule of law established in this country, it is also counter to the Bible’s teachings on the subject. Considering the founding of our country, the latter certainly led to the design of the former. The Bible says that “You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor (Lev 19:15)”. Numerous other passages lead back to this same concept (Ex 23:3; Ex 23:6; Ex 23:8; Deut 1:16-17; Deut 16:18-20; 2 Chron 19:5-7; Ps 82:2-4; Prov 17:26). If you are a Christian then what is happening should bug you. If you voted for this administration then this should go onto the mounting list of things that should make you reconsider next time. Color should not matter. Social status should not matter. The rule of law is important and Obama’s administration is failing badly in this area.
