Obama announces new stimulus during Labor Day speech

September 7, 2010

Last week I linked to two reports that show that government stimulus, specifically infrastructure “investments”, do not provide any economic growth.   It in fact does more long term damage than good.  As if on cue, Obama has now announced plans for additional stimulus…on infrastructure.  It is obvious at this point that Obama and his team are pretty clueless as to what to do.  (Some call it denial)  It is also very obvious why they want to push a little extra cash into the economy before November.  The stimulus money is running out… and what happens when the government dough starts to run out…any ‘economic growth’ associated from it stops as well.  Anybody remember the mini disaster that was Cash for Clunkers.  Not only did it cost the taxpayer a ton of money, it had no positive long term effects.  To put it simply, the Obama administration is trying to deceive the people into thinking that their policies are working right before the election by pumping in more money that we do not have.  This is looking more and more like a Japanese re-run.  Hopefully people can see through this charade.

Of course he made the announcement of this new stimulus yesterday while giving a speech to the AFL-CIO in Milwaukee.   Unless something else comes up that grabs my ADD, I plan on breaking down that speech this week to give insight into the liberal mind and expose some of Obama’s false arguments.  If you are an overachiever here is the whole speech.   It is an interesting read.  I am only going to get through his opening comments today.

“Hello, Milwaukee! Thank you to the Milwaukee Area Labor Council and to all of my brothers and sisters in the AFL-CIO for inviting me to spend this day with you – a day that belongs to the working men and women of America. I want to acknowledge your outstanding national president, a man who knows that a strong economy needs a strong labor movement: Rich Trumka; Dave Newby, president of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO; and our host, your Milwaukee Area Labor Council Secretary-Treasurer, Sheila Cochran, who I hear has a birthday tomorrow. I’m proud to be here with our Secretary of Labor, a daughter of union members, Hilda Solis; and our Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood. And let’s hear it for the folks at the forefront of every fight for Wisconsin’s working men and women – Senator Herb Kohl; Congresswoman Gwen Moore; and your outstanding mayor, Tom Barrett.”

Once again it is interesting who Obama hangs his hat with.  Rich Trumka.  If you do not know who he is then you should read this article by Michelle Malkin.  I won’t ruin the article for those who want to read it but I will mention two of the stories she brings up that sheds some light on this particular union boss.  The first is Eddie York.  He was a non-union contractor who was shot to death during a union strike.  Workers who tried to come to his aid were beaten.  The man in charge was Trumka.  His response to the violence…”I’m saying if you strike a match and you put your finger in it, you’re likely to get burned.”  In another incident in Illinois “Trumka told UMW members to kick the S**t out of every last worker who crossed his picket lines”.  The article is very enlightening.

I have covered the cabinet members before so I won’t go into that, but I would like to mention Tom Barrett.  He is actually running for Governor.  Although not a criminal like Trumka, he is a typical liberal.  As a representative he voted to cut defense spending and supported abortion among other things.  One key thing stuck out to me though when reading an article on him is the fact that His aides said that he does not take positions on decisive issues because he wants to be liked.  That is scary for someone who wants to be a leader.  As the saying goes, you have to stand for something or you will fall for anything.  That is pretty much what Obama did during the campaign.  But as we found out in that case, these people often do stand for something…and usually they are not good things.

The rest of the speech is one long progressive talking point; full of misleading statements and false arguments.  I will get to those later.  Please come back to see what they are and how to dismantle them.
