The Heritage Foundation has just launched a sister organization, Heritage Action for America. The Heritage Foundation is one of the most influential think tanks in the country and one that provides critical research to those in Washington. This new organization is designed as an activist organization that will give the people more power to influence their government. Here is the description from their about page.
For nearly four decades, The Heritage Foundation has provided conservative leadership for America. What began as a visionary startup policy shop has blossomed into the most influential think tank in the nation. Along the way, Heritage adapted to market pressures to maintain its position as the world’s most cutting-edge and influential research institution.
Today, just as millions of Americans concerned about the direction of our country have sought new ways to get involved in fighting for America’s future, The Heritage Foundation has sought new ways to work towards an America where Freedom, Opportunity, Prosperity and Civil Society flourish. The answer is Heritage Action for America, an independent sister organization to the Heritage Foundation. We will ensure members of Congress hear directly from their constituents, including over 650,000 members of The Heritage Foundation and millions of others around the country who believe in our principles and share our vision of America’s future.
As a 501(c)(4) organization, Heritage Action for America will allow unprecedented coordination and communication with concerned citizens who want to be part of the national dialogue. Our country stands at a precipice. The size and scope of the federal government is growing at unprecedented rates. The American people are increasingly aware of this and looking for more opportunities to make their voices heard and impact the decisions of their elected representatives. Heritage Action for America will speak directly to the American people in order to break through the establishment in Washington.
I signed up yesterday to check it out. The organizations first goal is to repeal Obamacare. Right now they are pressuring each congressman to sign a petition that will force Pelosi to bring the repeal of Obamacare to a vote on the House floor. They have editable form emails that allow you to express your opinion to your congressman with just one click. Currently there are other form letters to send to the Judiciary Committee over the Kagan nomination and to your Senators over the ratification of the START treaty. Personally I think that this organization can have real influence and at a minimum will help you stay informed on the issues coming to a vote in Congress.
I have started sending out requests to join if you are one of my Facebook friends (slowly though as Facebook only allows you to send so many requests a day). But you certainly do not have to wait from a request from me. I would encourage you to check it out and pass it on to your friends.
