Memorial Day commemorates US Soldiers who have died for our freedom. Today while you are enjoying your day off, take a moment to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. It is certainly disappointing that our President chose not to attend Arlington National Cemetery on this day, but it is not surprising. Since 1992, every President has gone to Arlington to pay their respects (except 2002 when Bush went to Normandy). I would think that with 2 ongoing wars, Obama would make an extra effort and attend, especially considering his history with the military and national defense in general (where few people could say he is competent) Personally I think it is just another example of his extremely poor judgment; judgment he has displayed both before and after his election. The Heritage Foundation also pointed out the disrespectful and highly uneducated defense of Obama from the far Left. Liberal David Corn writes “And does it matter if Obama throws some leaves on a tomb?” one paragraph before he says that conservatives (“conservative wingnuts”) attacks on Obama ”dishonors those who rendered the ultimate sacrifice for this country.” That is what an Ivy League education gets you I guess. Pretty sad. He might be the epitome of the quote
“A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.”
And considering where he graduated from and the fact that I found 2 factual errors in his story on my first read through, these probably should apply too.
“We are faced with the paradoxical fact that education has become one of the chief obstacles to intelligence”
“Intelligence appears to be the thing that enables a man to get along without education. Education enables a man to get along without the use of his intelligence.”
But just as a man cannot diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him (C.S. Lewis), Mr. Corn’s words cannot give Obama the leadership and character that he does not possess, nor can he diminish the honor of the sacrifice or the gratitude we feel towards our brothers and sisters in arms that did not return.
