Can anyone defend these people

May 17, 2010

There are a lot of things going on right now so it’s hard to pick out what I should right about.  It should be equally hard to defend all the stuff that is going on, but liberals certainly are trying.

There is the Arizona immigration law.  The administration has called the law “unfortunate”.  Obama wants the federal government to challenge the law in court and has asked Attorney General Holder to lead the charge.  He certainly has, already questioning the law’s constitutionality.  The problem is that Holder had to admit he has not even read the legislation  yet (about 10 pages).   That is pretty hard to defend, but that is how this administration operates.  Everything is politically motivated.  Case in point, the voter intimidation issue involving the Black Panthers.   In possibly one of the most absurd statements ever made, Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez now says that there is not enough evidence to charge these people…it would not have held up in court.  This despite numerous eye witnesses (D & R) and a video of the incident.  Only in Obama’s world does that make sense.

Liberals in the Senate have also just recently blocked an amendment that would end the federal bailouts to Freddie and Fannie.  In case you did not know, these two did not get their fill with the initial bailout and are now asking for billions more.  Aligning with this issue is the budget.  House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has now announced that for the first time since 1974, the House will not pass a budget this year.  But at least he is honest.  Here is what he said.

“It’s difficult to pass budgets in election years because they reflect what the [fiscal] status is.”

That is, they are spending your money like rock stars and they do not want to bring that to the forefront in case their irresponsible actions might cost them re-election.  They also seem to have absolutely no desire to fix these problems that they have caused with their liberal economic policies.  If not their reluctance to come up with a budget, then Obama’s proposed budget is a dead give away of this fact.  His budget would triple the deficit by 2020.  If you were in Congress, would you want to deal with that reality?  They could take this opportunity to show the American people that they are serious about cutting spending, but they do not want to.  They really do believe that the government has to spend more money to get itself out of a recession.  Obama himself was promoting this economic fallacy just last week saying

“I knew that if we didn’t act boldly and quickly — if we didn’t defy the politics of the moment and do what was necessary — we would have risked an even greater disaster.”

He was talking about the Stimulus bill in case you were wondering, which has already proven to be a complete failure as predicted by history.  Not surprisingly, Obama has not come down hard on Congress to demand they pass a budget (as Bush did on at least one occasion that I can think of).  I am sure he does not want his fiscal irresponsibility in the spotlight either.  He will instead continue to promote his Stimulus as protecting us from what did not happen.  He will also continue to push Obamacare, and now the new cap and trade bill that was just introduced (which he did take time to give his support to).  Maybe I will talk about those mistakes tomorrow.  Until then, I wonder if there are any liberals out there that can defend the very small snapshot of items I mentioned today.  They are certainly welcome to try.  I will be golfing for the Captain Andrew R. Houghton Foundation this afternoon, but will be back later to see if there are any takers.
