The next thing

April 6, 2010

Based upon what I am reading, it looks like the President’s next thing will be cap and trade…once again.  I thought maybe an amnesty bill, but I guess that will come later.  I say this because last week Obama announced an expansion of oil and gas exploration.  It is obviously a political ploy to look as if he is compromising something to gain support for his economy killing energy policies.  Even the liberal papers caught on to this.  But I did not see any of these papers describe what Obama actually did or has done to back up this promise.  As usual, Obama’s actions do not match his rhetoric.  He basically shutdown leases for areas that were within 2 years of producing oil (Alaska), delayed some until 2012 (Virginia) and some others for as many as 7 years.  I was actually hopeful that he was caving in to common sense, but I guess not.  The longer he is in office, the more I believe that he might be the most dishonest person I have ever known…and I spent two years in a place where lying is a cultural thing.

The purpose of all of this is to once again try to show himself as a centrist who is trying to work with conservatives, while painting these conservatives as obstructionists who will fight whatever he says.  The reality is that it is only rhetoric, and there are no actions to back it up.  I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it is hard when he appoints people like Steven Chu to Energy Secretary…”Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe”…that would be Chu and that would be $8/gallon.  I guess that would give them an opportunity to push green socialism and bash private oil companies all at the same time…you gotta admire their efficiency.  Anyways, Obama’s speech was a doozy last week.  Maybe I will go through it and show just how sly he was.  Until then…
