“After I signed the bill, I looked around to see if there were any asteroids falling, some cracks opening up in the earth,” said Obama as he mocked Republicans for their opposition to his recently passed healthcare legislation and their insistence that they will try to repeal it after the next election. It is not surprising that Obama would once again show his classless character, but it is disappointing. A man that is supposed to be a leader once again shows without a doubt that he is nothing of the sort.
More amazing than his arrogance is that he just does not seem to grasp the long term effects of his policies. Perhaps it is a failed education system that does not point out how badly the New Deal has damaged our country and how dependent it has made the people upon the government. Personally, it does not take much more than a little common sense to figure that out. Just look around at all the government entitlements that our bankrupting our country. I hope that he is not really trying to turn us into a socialist state, but with statements like the following, it is hard to argue against.
“I don’t believe the American people are going to put the insurance industry back in the driver’s seat. We’ve been there already. We’re not going back,”
By insurance companies he would mean private companies. Since the people are obviously not in charge, that would mean the government is. I guess you can just add it to the long list of his pro big government statements. That is the answer after all…to everything.
There are also the obvious constitutional issues, but those hardly bother this president. We got a very good glimpse of this with his reaction to the Honduras situation, as well as more recently with his reaction to the Citizens United case. There is a long list of those as well though.
The fight to protect our founding principles is still on though. This health care legislation has only emboldened this administration. After mocking Republicans, the President appointed 15 people to vacancies by using recess appointments. This way he can circumvent Senate confirmation of these appointees until 2011. There was obviously was bipartisan opposition to these appointees since Obama had the 60 votes needed. The most notorious of these (to my knowledge) is union lawyer Craig Becker’s appointment to the National Labor Relations Board. It is used by both parties, but that does not make it right…especially when you have control of Congress and still cannot get the votes.
The next takeover by the Obama administration, as dictated by the President, will be the financial industry. (It would have been student loans, but that was actually in the health care legislation that just passed) Last week Obama already said he would try to prevent lenders from foreclosing homes on those who cannot make payments, but I am sure that will be included in Dodd’s proposed legislation. Legislation that I am sure shadows HR 4173. Pretty scary. It makes this next election that much more important.
