Victories on the education front

March 25, 2010

Lost in the uproar of the healthcare fiasco was some better news from the Texas Board of Education.  Conservatives and Christians were well represented during the latest review of the social studies curriculum.  (which happens every 10 years).  I found this editorial in IBD that describes some of the things that now must be included and some other things that were shot down.  Overall, I would say that things turned out pretty well.

The fact that conservatives were able to win this battle is important in itself, but it also shows the importance of voting for strong conservatives for the board.  The Board of Education is elected in Texas (I do not believe this is the case in some other states) so liberal elites in education do not have the final say.  Parents do have a voice.  Another interesting point from the editorial  is that Texas buys so many books that our curriculum influences the curriculum of other states so hopefully this will have a positive effect for others as well.

On a somewhat similar note I found something yesterday that I thought was a great idea.  It is called 31 days to a more powerful you and it is incredibly simple.  Read one chapter of proverbs each day for a year.  There are 31 chapters in proverbs so you end up reading the book 12 times.  The chapters in proverbs are not very long so it is too easy to start your day taking a little wisdom from the good book.  I started it today with chapter 25.

Indeed it is the objective of the liberals to obtain the loyalties of the next generation by stealing them from us while they are young. It’s long been that they see public education not only as a jobs program for liberals, but as a means of indoctrinating the youth.

So while the health care debate is very important, the lesson here is not to ignore what is happening in your own backyard. Most educators are nice people, and they’re all smiles when you visit them. But do read your kid’s textbooks, and ask what the teachers are telling them.

Better yet, abolish public education.

absolutely, abolish public education, roll back property taxes and buy tuition to private education or home school. the public school system is a jobs program and a breeding ground for progressives. or let’s compromise, put god back in the schools and keep the jobs program alive. this would make most everyone happy.
