It is certain now that the Democrats are trying harder to pass any kind of health care legislation, no matter what is in it, rather than trying to come up with realistic long term solutions. The process is getting so complicated because of it that I am having a hard time following.
This is what seems to be going on (if anyone out there can explain it better then please do so). There are not enough votes to pass the Senate bill “as is” in the House (mainly because the Senate bill funds abortion) so that option is out. So they apparently are trying to pass it with reconciliation, something that has never been used because there were not 60 votes in the Senate. A very partisan and desperate maneuver. This morning the House Budget Committee will begin markup on a 2,000 plus page reconciliation bill that is actually the bill submitted to the Ways and Means last year except they have added a government takeover of student loans that was asked for by the President (I know…student loans…healthcare). But all that doesn’t really matter because this bill will be eventually thrown out and replaced by the actual reconciliation bill that is being written behind closed doors as we speak. It’s enough to make you sick. And it makes about as much sense as President Obama “fixing” the cornhusker kickback by extending it to all states (for those keeping track that would increase the cost of the bill while not providing a way to pay for it and increase government dependency…but I guess it is fair…right?)
If these solutions were actually good for the country then there would be no need for all these closed door deals and political games to get it passed. Anyone thinking rationally should understand this. But as the President said recently, this is just the foundation for more intervention until progressives get what they want. That is why it is so important for them to pass this bill and that is why they are going to such extremes. They need a foot in the door.
In the end I hope the only thing that materializes from this legislation is the exposure of the progressive left and their true motivations. Maybe then we can all sit down again and come up with some rational and realistic solutions that will actually help the people.

i believe the senate healthcare bill will be voted on & pass by the house on sunday evening 3/21/2010. it will be lauded as a historic win for the american people. in actuality the only winners will be insurance companies and the progressive agenda. once again the administration and progressives are ignoring the public. just like they, as well as conservatives, ignored the public on the TARP vote. our only hope is that more of these policies are passed by the government so that the public can truly act. i am now convinced that the political and financial systems are broken to the point of complete systemic failure. there must be more outrageous policies passed so that the american people can save the republic. i used to hope and pray that professional politicians would come to their senses, but i’m not to confident in that anymore. it’s sad when people like me come to the conclusion that there is no hope with the current system. am i actually hoping for more abominable policies from both the right and the left? i believe that i am and that, tsc, is a sorrowful place to be. unfortunately that is really where much of america is also. they don’t even participate in the process other than voting, and even voting participation is waning. i’m just giving up the fight for liberty and justice. besides, christ the king is in control and may be using these events to return to claim his kingdom on earth. that my friend i am very hopeful about.
