In trying to persuade progressives in the House to vote for the Senate healthcare bill (so they can avoid needing Republicans), Obama revealed what we are all afraid of …that this bill is just the beginning; there will be more intervention until they get what they want. It is in fact a foundation for a single payer system that we call the public option. The exact words are not known, of course, because like everything else it was behind closed doors. But based upon comments from those who were there, it was pretty easy to decipher what went on. Really what Obama said is a microcosm of how we have gotten ourselves into this dire state of government dependency. The federal government, good intentions and all, has slowly taken over until now we need them. Like the story of Amtrak (remember early 1900 price fixes), this legislation will just be another stepping stone to get the government’s foot in the door.
As Americans we must realize that making people more dependent on the government is not helping them and that is exactly what progressive (read regressive…not sure why they have been allowed to hijack that word) policies do. No one can argue that we have become more and more progressive over the last 60 plus years so it should come as no surprise that Americans are more dependent on the government now than ever before. A recent report shows that over 60 million people are dependent on the government for daily housing, food, health care, and retirement. This is up 31% since 2001. It is the fault of Washington and not any particular party, but I will say that the recent policies passed by Obama (such as the stimulus, which wiped out 10 years of welfare reform) have accelerated this dependency all in the name of helping people. This recent report would agree. Here is a copy of the report if you would like to read it. If Congress and this administration really want to change our country, fixing the problem of dependency would be a good start. They should at least read the report and stop kidding themselves as to what is the true problem. Right now I do believe they are in denial.

the welfare/warfare state is out of control. both parties are responsible for americas dependency on the state. over 30 mm are on food stamps. the dems are mostly at fault for the welfare state where the reps are mostly at fault for the warfare state. it will end soon, the dollar will not be able to stand the pressure much longer.
last weeks treasury auction featured more buys from primary dealers than almost any others occurring in 2010. primary dealers have to buy treasuries. so to see them buying high percentages of treasuries at debt auctions means that few investors who can pick and choose what to buy are actually looking to buy u.s. debt.
what this means is; of all the competitive bids only 32% came from Direct Bidders or those who bought debt directly from the Treasury, these orders can easily be tracked and identified. the other 68% came from Indirect Bidders, orders that can not be tracked and identified. we can only speculate who the Indirect Bidders are, but my guess it’s the Federal Reserve or the u.s. directly buying it’s own debt. how long can that ponzi scheme last?
