During the latter parts of the campaign it was noted by several media members that Obama never showed up on time. One reporter stated that it was either because Obama was extremely unorganized or he has an extreme ego. I think that we know the answer to that question by now. He has shown it throughout his short tenure as President and that certainly did not change during the latest healthcare summit. It is indeed his ego. From his un-presidential exchange with McCain (…the election is over…I am President…which by the way he used to completely avoid the whole transparency issue) to his chiding of other Republican members such as Rep Cantor for having the audacity of putting the 2,000 plus page bill on his desk; his ego was apparent. It is certainly not the humble servant the office deserves. Even after the summit Obama said the following, “I thought it was a terrific discussion, and we’ll see whether it made any difference in terms of people’s attitudes.” I thought the summit was meant to discuss alternative ideas, but that was not the case. According to Obama himself, he is still trying to convince the people that government intrusion into health care is a good thing. (Here is a shortened video of highlights from the summit)
There is a definite denial on the majority’s part as to what the people want. Evidently they continue to believe that the people are not intelligent enough to understand how great their plan is so they will continue to cram it through until we get it. One way or another. He says that he is not for big government and we all know the history of government intervention is not pretty…so why the push? Does he not have faith in the states to accomplish this task? Does he not have faith in the American people? Why must the federal government step in? The truth of the matter is that they do not have to, but they want to. They want the power and the opportunity to show the country that they did it; they want that credit. Again, not a humble spirit. They also live in a utopia world that does not exist. A world where everyone has a right to anything they want and if they can’t get it, then there must be something wrong. But don’t worry; the government is here to help. Never mind the consequences. I think it is about time that they take a more humble route. Have faith in the American people that we can do this without them…if they would only get out of our way.
