More effects of the Scott Brown win

January 25, 2010

The loss of the Massachusetts seat to the Republican Party has really shaken up those across the aisle.  They appear to be completely lost, have no direction, and are pointing fingers at just about everybody but themselves. I read this one article quoting several Democrats who are now pointing fingers at the Obama White House.  It’s like they are saying ‘they made us do it…we are really on your side’  It is really quite comical when you think about it.  Anything for a vote I guess.  Here are some of the quotes.

“What happened was they got so caught up in all these other issues like health care and cap and trade and all this other stuff, that because of that they maybe didn’t put enough focus on the economy,”  Rep. Collin Peterson

“At this point, the challenge that they have had, and we have had, is that there were so many problems that were dumped in their lap when they took over…They have been moving quickly on a hundred different points, so I think that’s their biggest challenge.” Sen. Debbie Stabenow

“We’ve done a damn good job at righting this ship. And now it’s starting to move in the right direction. Now what happened?” We lost the sense of urgency that we’re still doing it every single day, because this isn’t over yet.”  Rep. Patrick Kennedy

“We all pretty much knew for sure we were going to lose Massachusetts…And yet, last night and this morning, we had absolutely no message guidance from the White House.” Unnamed aide

Several things are clear from all of those quotes.  They think that it is the government’s responsibility to fix our problems.  They believe that the things they have done so far are good for our country.  And they believe they had nothing to do with the creation of these problems.  They also seem to be waiting on leadership that just does not exist.  In my humble opinion these liberals in the White House and Congress (and those advising them) are living in some parallel universe that does not exist.  Nothing demonstrates this more than a recent article I read by James Carville.  It is a must read for those who would like a peak into this mystical world.  Here is a little sample.

“But Barack Obama, the US president, and his team admirably and eloquently argued that the US was ready to turn the page on the Bush years, ready to be united. Rather than look backward we should march forward in a new post-partisan environment.  Part of the problem is that Mr Obama was refreshingly naive in believing his own rhetoric. He really believed we could rid Washington of revolving doors filled with lobbyists or that “there is not a liberal America and a conservative America”. Mr Obama and his team really believed he could bridge the partisan divide. Being elected as a change candidate in a change election does not translate into changing Washington. Nothing can change Washington.”

He apparently really believes that Obama does not blame Bush on a regular basis.  Obama did so in his inaugural address and in just about every speech since then.  He is also no stranger to partisan politics.  I would argue he is one of the most partisan politicians I have ever seen.  The examples come almost daily.  And apparently Carville believes that Obama has no control over the lobbyists and special interests agents he appoints and panders to on a regular basis.  This is indeed a liberal utopia world.  It explains why it is virtually impossible to have a logical discussion with them and probably explains why they cannot see that the policies they are pushing are the very ones that got us into this mess in the first place.
