On January 5th 2006 3-16 FA lost 5 of our finest in an IED attack outside of Najaf, Iraq. As usual I had a hard time coming up with the right words on this day, but luckily our old 3-16 Chaplain came to the rescue with a message sent out last night, part of which I have quoted below.
“Many of us have never been the same since that day, January 5th, 2006. Our hearts still grieve for our friends to whom we never had the chance to say goodbye. Please remember these brave men and their families in your thoughts and prayers throughout the day:
MAJ William Hecker – Battalion Operations Officer
CPT Christopher Petty – Headquarters & Headquarters Battery (HHB) Commander
SFC Stephen J. White – Battalion Supply NCOIC
SGT Johnny J. Peralez, Jr. – Combat Medic, HHB
PVT Robbie M. Mariano – Cannon Crewmember, HHB
I will never forget these brave men who gave so much for their country. I pray God’s peace and strength upon their families and upon all who were affected by that day.”
Please help us to ensure that these men and their sacrifice for our country are never forgotten.
