Yesterday a Rasmussen poll showed President Obama’s overall approval rating was at 44% with only around 25% strongly approving (compared to over 40% that strongly disapprove). This is certainly troubling for a man who is all about popularity rather than substance. This same poll also showed the racial divide. 98% of the black population sampled approved of Obama’s performance. There is only one explanation for this last number and it has nothing to do with performance. And I thought I was the racist or so I have been told by commenters on other blogs.
Part of his dwindling support probably has come from his habitual lying to the American public. (Or misleading if I want to be PC) The healthcare legislation is a perfect example. Let’s take the most recent compromise for the Senate bill that this administration has cooked up. Instead of using the public option, they have decided to try to add more people to the Medicare roles by expanding the age bracket of those who qualify. This has numerous problems. The Medicare system is already bankrupting the country so expanding it doesn’t exactly make sense, especially when the same legislation makes billions of dollars of cuts to Medicare reimbursements for hospitals. It makes a big problem even larger. And Obama thinks so too.
“As we move forward on health care reform, it is not sufficient for us simply to add more people to Medicare or Medicaid.” -Obama in June
So why the move? They are having trouble getting the public option through Congress so they are looking for any way to increase government’s role in healthcare. Liberals believe that government is the solution to uninsured Americans and they are willing to do anything, no matter how much it actually costs. Also remember that the public option was a major compromise for far left liberals such as Obama. They really want a single payer system. The same system that is failing around the world. Knowing this, it is not surprising that they would try to implement anything that increases the government’s role. It is a part of their desired endstate.
But healthcare alone is not turning people away from Obama. Even for those who are ideologically clueless, his partisan political tactics are wearing on those who believed his hope and change mantra. There are plenty of past examples, but let’s take a look at a couple of recent events. Obama’s Afghanistan speech from West Point was filled with partisan shots. In his recent interview with 60 minutes he ridiculed the CEOs and bankers who he needs in order to turn the economy around. And then today, Obama is meeting with all 60 Democratic Senators to try to push his healthcare plan through. Why only the 60 Democratic Senators when he supposedly wants to find a bipartisan solution, one that is best for all Americans? And why didn’t he invite Olympia Snowe? She’s liberal enough.
First, neither he or his Congressional comrades really want a bi-partisan solution. The evidence for this. Congress has thrown aside republican amendment after amendment and the President has not once stood up and asked Congress to look at the numerous pieces of legislation presented by Republicans. If he really wanted all ideas on the table, this would have been done.
Second, the purpose of his little meeting today is not to come up with a solution to a problem, but to pressure wavering Senators to pass Obamacare. You can bet there will be some deals made to buy off some Senators and Obama’s favorite weapon, the fear tactic, will certainly be used. Early word is that Obama is going to try to push the idea that if they do not pass this legislation right now, then health care reform will never be passed. Sound familiar. These are the types of things that reveal Obama for who he really is, and as the polls show, people do not like the real Obama. I do believe he is right though. If Democrats cannot socialize healthcare during his term, then they may not ever be able to do it. For our country’s sake, let’s hope that he is right.
