Judicial Nominee David Hamilton

November 17, 2009

I have yet another example to add to my How I know Obama is not a Christian list.  Obama has nominated David Hamilton to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.  The federal court which covers Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Hamilton is a board member for Indiana’s ACLU branch and has served as its vice president for litigation.  His past also includes fundraising for ACORN.  Hamilton was initially appointed by President Clinton in 1994 despite the ABA giving him a “not qualified” rating.

There are a few rulings that illustrate what kind of person he is and make him a fitting candidate for Obama’s team.

The first his is pro-abortion stance.  Once nominated by Clinton, he spent the next 7 years issuing a series of rulings that prevented Indiana from implementing its informed consent law, which provides women information about abortion’s risks and alternatives.  The 7th Circuit Court finally overturned Hamilton’s rulings and rebuked him for his decisions on the matter.

The second issue.  In 2005, Hamilton ruled that “the Indiana state legislature is not permitted to begin its sessions with Christian prayers, and that invocations must not use names like Jesus Christ or Christian terms like savior. Hamilton concluded that using proselytizing words in invocations at the statehouse violated the United States Constitution.” (from Wikipedia)

And as a bonus to the list, Obama has also nominated David Hamilton’s sister-n-law Dawn Johnsen for the position of assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel in the DOJ.  Johnsen is a former Clintonite who served as the Acting Assistant Attorney General heading the Office of Legal Counsel from 1997-1998 and as Deputy Assistant Attorney General from 1993-1996.  Where else has she served?  Why as the Legal Director for NARAL from 1988-1993.  She also works for the ACLU as well.

Please keep these nominations in mind the next time someone tries to tell you that Obama is a Christian leader.  I would also urge you to write your Senators and tell them not to confirm these candidates.  You might want to write Senator Dick Lugar from Indiana as well.  I heard somewhere that he is supporting the confirmation of Hamilton.  If he does vote in favor I hope he becomes famous.  In the kind of way where he doesn’t get re-elected.
