Senator Harry Reid is pushing through S.1776 this week. This legislation raises Medicare provider reimbursement rates by $247 billion over the next ten years. In case you were wondering how Congress could say the new Obamacare is now deficit neutral, this is how. They are simply playing more games by stripping out this portion of the health care reform and calling it a budgetary issue. I often wonder if these congressmen simply think we are that stupid. An increase in the deficit is an increase in the deficit. This is in addition to the front loading of higher taxes and back loading of increased spending. They are using the CBO’s ten year timeframe for cost analysis and adjusting their numbers to make a 2 to 3 trillion dollar piece of legislation into something around 800 billion.
As far as the bill itself. Despite Obama’s promise of transparency , the ‘compromise’ bill is being written behind closed doors. The people behind these doors are Sen Reid, Sen Dodd, Sen Baucus and a White House team led by Rahm Emanuel. All outstanding corrupt officials. These secretive proceedings combined with Congress’ unwillingness to allow a 72 hour period before the vote is flat out scary and needs to be stopped. Or else we will have another stimulus disaster with no one actually reading the bill. Right now it is 1,500 pages of lawyer speak. How fast can you read?
