This week Obama is in campaign mode for several fellow Democrats. Today he is in New York raising money for the DNC, and campaigning for Democrat Bill Owens. Owens is trying to win the seat of Republican John McHugh who Obama appointed to Secretary of the Army. Convenient I would say. The rest of the week he will be campaigning for New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and the ever so corrupt Sen. Chris Dodd.
That is quite a schedule. Good thing there aren’t any other pressing issues to address.
I would like to point out a few things about these candidates that Obama is endorsing. I think it shows a lot about Obama himself. First, Jon Corzine. He is a former chairman and CEO of Goldman Saks. The very same Wall Street credentials that Obama hates. He was married until 2003 when he had an affair with a local union president. He was a Senator before becoming Governor and has spent over $100 million of his own money on campaigns. With this money he campaigned for universal health care, universal gun registration, taxpayer funded college education, affirmative action, and same sex marriage. The ultimate liberal. As governor he ended the death penalty and tried to get the approval for the state to borrow $470 million for stem cell research. He decreased funding to state universities to the point where they had to raise tuition and cut classes and sports teams. Then, of course, he was one of the governors who petitioned the White House recently for a trillion dollars for the states for education and welfare programs. A measure to have him removed as governor was initiated for the first time in the state’s history, but failed to get enough signatures.
Gov. Deval Patrick does not come without his own baggage. His position on the issues are also typical liberal stances. He is against the death penalty, for the legalization of same sex marriage, and a proponent of stem cell research. He is currently overseeing a failing universal health care system in his state, but still believes we should go to a single payer system. He failed in his efforts to bring casinos to the state and drew criticism from even his own supporters because the day of the vote he was in NY signing an autobiography deal. Patrick’s biggest ethical controversy was during his election. He described Benjamin LaGuer (a man convicted of a brutal 8 hour rape) as “thoughtful, insightful, eloquent, [and] humane” and argued for his release. He even contributed $5,000 for DNA testing to prove LaGuer’s innocence. This backfired as the DNA tests linked LaGuer to the crime. As a side note, Obama friend Professor Gates from the Cambridge controversy was also involved. Patrick also was one of the four governors to request the trillion dollars for states.
And everyone knows Chris Dodd. How Obama can campaign for this man is beyond me. But Obama will. In his own words, “I can’t say it any clearer: I will be helping Chris Dodd because he deserves the help.” Dodd has been involved with the Courntrywide Scandal, Fannie/Freddie controversies, Irish cottage controversy, and the AIG assistance blunder. Basically the entire financial crisis. Michelle Malkin devotes a good portion of her new book to this man, which is saying something considering Obama comes from the land of Chicago corruption.
The fact that Obama is supporting these men speaks volumes. Character is obviously not an issue when determining who he will support. But if you look at Obama’s track record, it rarely has. Hopefully the voters in these states will send a message that enough is enough.
