Obama requests another raise of debt ceiling

September 9, 2009

“Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren…America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.”

…said Barack Obama while blasting Bush in a 2006 floor speech when Bush requested to raise the debt ceiling.  Now Obama will have done it twice in his first year.  The first time was included in the Stimulus.  I promise it is in there somewhere amongst the thousand pages of pork.   I wonder if it is OK if I use this same Obama line against him now.  It would only be fair, and he is all about being fair.

The absurdity of this action is almost as bad as Obama’s assertion that he would usher in a “new era of responsibility”.  Imagine if you and I had the authority to raise our own credit limit on our credit cards instead of the credit card companies.  That is essentially what Congress has done over and over again.  Instead of making the hard choices and cutting spending, we just borrow more money.  But you say…what about all the jobs that would be lost if the government cut back on its programs and heaven forbid got rid of some of them?

Well, that is exactly the problem and the strongest argument against the socialistic policies of an ever expanding government pushed by liberals.  When a society becomes too dependent on government for survival, the government and the society it supports is doomed to spend its way to oblivion.  Think about it.  How will we survive the next recession with even more government control?  Free health care anyone?
