With the town halls came a new strategy from the Democratic Party. I say new, but it is really the same strategy that liberals have used for the better half of a decade. That is blame someone else. It became almost a joke during the Bush administration with liberals blaming him for everything from hurricanes to even the budget in his last 2 years (Democrats controlled Congress). It did not stop with the election. With Obama’s inaugural address came a cheap shot at the Bush administration. It continued as his administration organized a campaign against Rush Limbaugh. Even last week Obama was sure to remind his followers in Organizing for America of the horrible economic situation he inherited. So it did not really come as a huge surprise to see him and the rest of his comrades start to blame others for their failures in health care reform. Yes, they managed to blame someone when they control both houses of Congress and the Presidency. I know it is hard to comprehend, but try to follow me. The town halls were the result of ‘right wing extremists’ paid for by the powerful and evil healthcare industry. Hypocritically, they did not condemn ACORN, the SEIU, or Organizing for America when they publicly released memos telling their members to organize and combat (literally) these extremists at the town halls. They were also noticeably silent when a video surfaced of the SEIU blocking conservatives from a town hall meeting or another when their supporters were seen arriving by the bus load. Then there was the eruption of the chant “Yes we can” at the President’s New Hampshire town hall meeting. That was just a more realistic snapshot of America. Sure. Too bad the poll numbers do not agree. In her latest article, Caroline Baum from Bloomberg wrote a very good commentary describing everyone the Democrats have blamed during this debate and how these accusations do not hold merit. The most interesting of these was the health insurance industry. There was a memo leaked from the Democratic Party describing their strategy to demonize this industry. Caroline points out; however, that these companies have below-market pay and below-market shareholder returns. Two of the main indicators of price gouging. Shucks. But I guess the real question is why blame these groups of scare tactics instead of just answering the public’s concerns. The answer is obvious. It is because these ’scare tactics’ are based upon facts. I won’t point them all out as I have detailed much of this mis-information in a previous post , but if you would like another dose the Heritage Foundation wrote a very fact filled post on their blog.
There was also much said of the “fishy information” policy that asked Americans to send information to the White House being sent on email so they could collect it. How ever illegal this was, I am really more interested in their strategies to get their health care reform passed. I thought for sure that they would try another Trojan horse. I even wrote and warned people that they would disguise the public option as a government run co-op. But what they did next really surprised me. House leader Pelosi said she would not pass legislation without the public option and Senate leader Harry Reid said he would pass the legislation “by any means necessary”.
Nothing the Democrats have done thus far has revealed their true motives as much as these two statements. Their motive is not to serve the people. Their motive is to pass legislation that appeases the far left. It is all about a liberal agenda. One they have been orchestrating with the left’s shadow government for the last decade. (I am referring to CAP for those who are interested). It is clear now that they will do anything possible to garner the expanded government control over the health care industry. Even if they have to try a political gimmick such as pushing the public option through as a budget item to avoid the resistance from Republicans and less liberal Democrats.
So this is the change that Obama promised to bring to Washington. It is obvious now that when times get tough, he reverts back to being the ultimate politician just like anyone else. But what can you expect from someone who promised change without changing the corrupt political culture he rose to power in. If you take anything away from this whole situation, it should be that actions are more important than words. Hopefully more and more people will come to realize this and conservatives will not only stop this health care takeover, but also reverse a long trend of expanding government.
