Obama wants Defense of Marriage Act repealed

August 20, 2009

“My administration believes that the act is discriminatory and should be repealed by Congress. I have long held that DOMA prevents (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) couples from being granted equal rights and benefits.” -Obama

Once again it appears Obama has bowed to the far left.  I say bowed, but the more policies I see coming from his administration, the more I realize that he is a part of the far left.  This despite his campaign rhetoric.  The Defense of Marriage Act was passed in 1996 and it defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman for purposes of all federal laws, and provides that states need not recognize a marriage from another state if it is between persons of the same sex.  Obama says he embraces family values and the Christian faith.  Taking this position contradicts both of these stances.  It is truly sad that we have a Christian leader who would rather stand with those who hold a world view.  Such a man illustrates one who lacks character and one who can be convinced to do anything under the pretense of tolerance and electoral votes.  But then again, perhaps it is even more sad that we live in a society where such a law is needed.
