It is a sad world we live in when our elected officials choose politics before the good of our nation. Sotomayor has made it through the judiciary committee as expected with a vote of 13-6. It was a party line vote except for Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina. This is very disturbing. Democrats at least have an excuse because they believe that judicial activism is ok. They are also more likely to vote for a nominee based upon race or gender; or at least use this fact for a political advantage. Sen. Graham said “I’m deciding to vote for a woman I would not have chosen.” And why you ask….because being the first Latina nominated to the highest court is “a big deal”. He followed by saying “America has changed for the better with her selection.” Looks like we have found yet another Republican that just does not get it and needs to go. Here is a link to contact Lindsay Graham to express your disappointment over his decision. Likewise, here is the link to contact Sen. John Cornyn. I think it is equally important to write him and show our support for his stand against Sotomayor in the face of threats from the likes of Sen. Reid, Sen. Leahy, and Brent Wilkes.
In case you did not see their press conference, Harry Reid warned that ‘the GOP would pay a steep price for opposing the judge who would be the first Hispanic justice.’ Yes Reid. Very good logic for voting for a nominee. Of course this press conference was full of liberal activists representing Hispanics and women’s groups. One of these was Brent Wilkes of the League of United Latin American Citizens. He made the following statement, “It appears to me that they’re deciding to play racial politics.” He then followed with a threat to Hutchinson and Cornyn saying “they will feel the heat from our community.” I know. That much hypocrisy and irony in one statement is almost too much to bear. But it is how these people think. We are no longer just Americans. We are either Hispanic Americans, or African American, or racists…just kidding. Liberal activists have turned the diverse cultures of our great nation into a political tool for the left. Suddenly it is how do we look out for our race, not our country. And that is truly sad.
“There’s not one example-let alone a pattern-of her ruling based on bias or prejudice or sympathy…She has administered justice without favoring one group of persons over another.” Sen.Patrick Leahy( D-Vt.), the Judiciary Committee chairman.
Sorry Pat…that is just not true.

It is embarrassing to note that so many of my fellow Americans are such hypocrites when it comes to matters of race. Yes, tell us that we are racists when we refuse to bow down to The One and Sotomayor. But what happened to your “enlightened” stance when Gonzales was the nominee?
