Obama supporting ‘family planning’ abroad

June 26, 2009

You will see some outcry when certain executive orders are signed by a President, but I think for the most part people do not realize nor follow up on the consequences of such actions.  A perfect example is President Obama’s repealing of the Mexico City Policy.  With this executive order, Obama allowed the United States to fund abortion groups abroad.  It was one of his first actions as President.  In his official statement Obama specifically mentioned one pro-abortion group when he said “I look forward to working with Congress to restore U.S. financial support for the U.N. Population Fund,”

The Bush administration refused funding to the UNFPA for the last 8 years because of their ties to China’s one child policy.  The UNFPA is a pro-abortion group whose work with Chinese family ‘planning’ officials is well documented.  Family planning in China consists of forced abortions, involuntary sterilizations, and even some cases of killing babies after they have been born.

Well, just as Obama mentioned during the signing of his first executive order, we have indeed already given taxpayer dollars to this organization.  Hidden in the omnibus spending bill (that is the budget bill with over 8,000 earmarks) was $50 million dollars in funding to the UNFPA.  It was sponsored by Representative Louise Slaughter who is presently lobbying for additional funds for the UNFPA for next year…$65 million to be exact.  So for those who would say that those type executive orders are just symbolic, I would use this to show the contrary.

I would say that maybe the President simply missed this seemingly small amount of money in a pork laden spending bill if he had not already publicly voiced his support of this organization.  “By resuming funding to UNFPA, the U.S. will be joining 180 other donor nations working collaboratively to reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance to women in 154 countries,” He forgot to mention by any means necessary.

Obama is definitely the most pro-abortion president we have ever had, so I’m disappointed but not surprised by this news.

I think you’re right in your last paragraph, that the lefties see abortion as a way to keep down the population of poor people. Rather than try and lift them up through capitalism and democracy, they want to reduce their numbers. All this will do is result in fewer poor people, but they won’t be any better off.
