Protecting Voter Intimidation

June 4, 2009

So here are the circumstances.  We have 3 Klu Klux Klan members in military style uniforms, one carrying a weapon, standing in front of a polling station yelling racial slurs at potential voters and blocking the entrance to the station.  There are witnesses and the incident is caught on tape.  So what did the Bush administration do?  Nothing.  Nothing because it never happened.  But the opposite has happened in this election and the response of the Obama administration is the same.  They have dropped the case.

Here is the actual situation.  Three members of the Black Panthers in Philadelphia dressed in military style uniforms and blocked a polling station entrance during the Nov 4th election.  They were indeed yelling racial slurs at white people and their leader, Jerry Jackson, was carrying a weapon.  Believe it or not, Mr. Jackson was actually an elected member of Philadelphia’s 14th Ward Democratic Committee and was a credentialed poll watcher for Barack Obama.  Maybe he confused poll watcher with poll enforcer.  Forget the voter intimidation thing for a second.  Could you imagine the outrage if the Republican Party simply had a member of the Klu Klux Klan as a poll watcher.

Many of you probably remember this incident as it was caught on video and became a U-Tube sensation.  The fact that the case could have been dropped is just inconceivable.  There was even a credible witness.  It was none other than Bartle Bull, a former Robert F. Kennedy organizer who did legal work on behalf of black voters in Mississippi.  In his affidavit, he said that it was “the most blatant form of voter discrimination I have encountered in my life.”  The fact that he would make such a statement illustrates how bad this particular incident was.

I guess you can say that the case was not completely dropped.  According to a justice department spokesman, Mr. Jackson is no longer allowed to carry a weapon within 100 feet of a polling station.  That’s funny.  Seems to me that is already against the law, but what do I know.  The fact of the matter is that lawyers had already secured sanctions against the 3 men in a civil lawsuit by the government until they were told to drop the case by Obama appointed members of the justice department.  We have already seen that liberals will not go after organizations such as ACORN despite being indicted for voter fraud every election cycle, but this is another extreme.  The actions of the justice department in this incident should be front page news and someone should be losing their job.

This is very, very sad and yet another example of how the Obama administration is not for fair and equal rights and opportunities for America, but for whatever suits the administration’s needs. I am baffled at how blatet their actions/intentions are and the reaction from our citizens (or lack thereof). It scares me to think of what this administration will actually have to do for people to stand up and say ‘Wait! This doesn’t seem right!’

You know, the more you think about it…..the more offended you can get. White folks just have to get used to racism. That’s all there is to it. There are so many organizations out there that are uplifted by society but blatantly meant to separate us that you just get numb to it. It is not only accepted to be racist against white people, it’s almost cool. It’s normal. It’s not shocking at all. It just is. And you will get the same answers…..but it was wrong back then and it is wrong now.
I dunno…….what are you gonna do?

I’ll just continue working hard and let others make excuses. I think I will come out on top.
