“people who can be released there are a variety of options that we have and among them is the possibility is that we would release them into this country”
This statement made by Eric Holder is really disturbing. I do not see how this could even be a possibility. And if I was a Guantanamo detainee, I doubt that I would want it as a possibility either unless of course I wanted to start a cell here in the US. Even decisions to release some of these detainees to their home countries for prosecution have been disastrous. Take Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul. He was released to the Afghan government in 2007. Today he has rejoined the militant ranks. He goes by the name Mullah Abdullah Zakir and is in charge of operations in southern Afghanistan. Then there is Abu Sayyaf al-Shihri. Released to his home country of Saudi Arabia, he is now the deputy leader of Al Qaeda in Yemen.
These are 2 examples of an estimated 60 released detainees who have returned to the fight. This may seem like a small number, but keep in mind that there have only been around 800 detainees at Guantanamo and a little over 500 of those have been released.
Even without these examples, the idea of releasing some of these detainees in the US just does not make any sense. It really makes me wonder if Holder really understands the seriousness of the terrorist threat these detainees present. Remember as the deputy AG under Clinton, he was instrumental in offering clemency to 16 former members of the FALN organization. This despite a report from his own agency saying that FALN was an ongoing threat to our national security. It does make you wonder.

Yeah, when you read things like this it makes you wonder if Holder might not be the worst of Obama’s filthy inept lot– a kind of Jeremiah Wright Lite. One does recall his “Americans are cowards” speech, as well as the FALN debacle you mention. He’s probably well worth some copious research… there’s probably loads of unsavory background material on this one.
