Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is now being investigated for enforcing immigration laws that he and his men have been specifically trained to enforce. It is interesting to note that the new Director of Homeland Security is Janet Napolitano, the former governor in Arizona. This would not be the first time she and Sheriff Joe have had a run in.
This particular investigation was prompted by the following Democratic Congressmen: John Conyers (D-Mich.), Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), and Robert Scott (D-Va.). They of course were prompted by liberal activist groups, which in this case were the National Day Laborer Organizer Network and ACORN.
To me this is absolutely appalling that our government would go out of its way to go after one of the few men who is actually upholding the law with regards to illegal immigration.
A recent press release from Sheriff Joe’s office illustrated the effect he is having on this serious problem. His human smuggling operations have netted about 2,300 arrests and interviews in his jail system have identified 16,000 illegal immigrants who have or will be deported. This was all in 18 months. The real scary part is that 70% of the illegals in his jail system were arrested for felony crimes. It is no coincidence that the crime rate has dropped significantly as well.
If you do not think crimes by illegal aliens is a serious problem, then you might want to tell that to Rick Salter’s family who was recently shot by one of these felons here in Houston. Glen Beck talked about Rick on his show the other day. You can read the interview here.
The bottom line is that this is a serious issue and it is getting more serious with the drug cartel’s violence moving into Texas. Our government should be spending its time and resources to help those like Joe and not impede his progress.

A liberal friend (I still have one or two) once told me, “Yeah, you seem like such a cool guy, who would have guessed you were this big Law and Order type.” –delivered, of course, with the prerequisite sense of derision toward such values. Had I been quicker on my feet (next time I will be!) I would have said: “So what are you, a Lawlessness and Disorder type?” It really can bring one near despair on reading of situations such as the Sheriff Joe saga, to reflect on the self-destructive and essentially mentally ill nature of the Left– and how they have nonetheless managed to gain a major hold on our country. The best I sense we can hope for is that they so overplay their hand that the nation’s normal, clear-thinking populace will eventually rebel and vote them out in droves… if there are still enough of us left to do it.
These congressmen should be using their time to get rid of the pork in the stimilus plan instead of going after this Sheriff whom is doing his job.
I am from Michigan and it really bothers me how these Congressmen,
can go after a Sheriff for protecting our Country U.S.A. from all the
illegals coming into this country. What has happened to the oath of
office they took when they got elected. If they can’t fight for the
people that already live here, then they should step down and let some-
one else get voted into that office.
