The 3 Republican Senators who voted Yes to Stimulus in test vote

February 9, 2009

Obama’s hypocricy knows no bounds I guess.  His message of hope has turned into a message of fear as he desparately tries to pass his agenda in this so called stimulus bill (a tactic he criticized the last administration for only a few short months ago.)  But as upset as I am that Obama is pushing through this massive pork laden stimulus, I am even more upset that 3 Republican Senators voted for this legislation in a test vote Monday.  So here they are.

Sen Susan Collins
Sen Olympia Snowe
Sen Arlen Specter

Their names are linked to their contact page.  I urge everyone to let these Senators know how you feel about their possible vote for the stimulus package.  I have already emailed all three.

They must understand that the conservatives that they represent do not wish to have their tax dollars spent on more government programs that reward those who voted Obama into office.

Thanks — I am sending these patriots a donation for their next campaign. It takes great courage to stand up against the bullies of the conservative wing of the Republican party and their leader, Rush Limbaugh, to vote their convictions. The Republicans had every opportunity to participate in the process and instead chose this legislation to take a stand and throw a childish temper tantrum. In the end, it served no purpose other than to drive the Republican party down further. And thank goodness, had it succeeded, those childish Republicans and their devotion to failed ideology over advice of economists, historians, and researchers could well have driven this country off a cliff from which it could never return.

Huckabee himself said ‘tax cuts dont work’. Research shows ‘tax cuts dont work’. History shows ‘tax cuts dont work’. WHy is it that with all of that evidence, all it takes is Rush Limbaugh to proclaim ‘tax cuts do work’ for the conservative masses to believe it blindly.

Really — listen to something other than the axis of stupidity — Limbaugh, OReilly, and Hannity. The efforts of these three alone to undermine this country are treasonous and unpatriotic. If they are so ashamed of this country, they are free to leave. And please do.

You are welcome to waste your money on that if you wish, I will not stop you. Personally I have better organizations to give my money to. In all seriousness please check out my Charity page.

I think the exact opposite of what you are saying is happening now in Congress. Our conservative representatives are finally voting on conviction and representing some of our core values. This was not always the case over the last 8 years. I feel they gave too many concessions when it came to government spending.

History also does not show that lowering taxes does not work. I would say the opposite. Here is a link to a recent article from the Wall Street Journal that describes what Reaganomics did for a equally bad economy in the early 1980s. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123431484726570949.html
Bush Sr and Clinton were benefactors of what Reagan did in the 80’s as well as benefactors of the new dot com technology. Clinton actually lowered the capital gains tax while in office, which did wonders for investment. I give him credit even though Republicans controlled Congress.

Throughout history big government, which mainly means more socialistic type programs, have crippled economies. It brought down the former Soviet Union in the 80’s and it did the same to Britain in the late 1940’s when they tried to nationalize healthcare. They actually had to re-privatize it in the 80’s because it just about brought them to their knees.

We are still feeling the ill effects of FDR’s programs from the great depression. Short term help, but long term damage. Historians say that these policies actually prolonged the recession. WWII was the actual mechanism that brought us out of that economic trouble. We are now repeating these same mistakes.

The problem most people have with the Stimulus is that very little of it is actually for stimulus. WSJ economists say that only 12-15 percent of the legislation is stimulus for the economy. The CBO stated that this stimulus will slow down long term GDP growth more than if Congress did nothing at all. That is a pretty strong statement.

Republicans did not throw a fit. They offered solutions, but they were not brought into the legislation. A main point being to lower the bottom 2 tax brackets by 5 percentage points each. They were actually completely shut out of the Senate-House Negotiations that were held last night.

And for the record, I do not watch much news or listen to a whole lot of talk radio. I do read all I can and believe in what I think is right. That just happens to be the same ideology of a conservative.

Wow! Obviously Jan hasn’t even read what all is hidden in this stimulus package for the average American if she is calling those Republicans courageous. I read today that Arlen Specter was the only Republican invited to the Super Bowl Party at the White House with Obama and wined and dined as encouragement to vote for this package. That’s sure courageous! Typical politics and Obama is supposedly not about typical politics!ha! All we hear on the news is about creating jobs, helping people keep their homes, etc. No one ever talks about all the huge hidden amounts for shady pay back packages for those that supported Obama’s campaign. He promised in his campaign to roll up his sleeves and go line by line to cut costs. If he did that to this stimulus package, there would a LOT he could eliminate that would help America be in better shape. I would love to see him go on live TV and just read aloud to the public the title of EACH item in this package. Just doing that alone would show the public where his true loyalties lie. Thanks to TSC for taking the time to research this stimulus enough to help those of us who care about future America know what ’s being quietly pushed through without publicity while the Democrats are hoping it all gets passed before we realize what’s happened to us.

It is interesting that you say that Jan hasn’t read the stimulus. The negotiations increased the size of the bill from around 800 pages to over 1400 pages in the last week. It is actually impossible for our representatives to read these changes either before they vote.

Syble February 13, 2009 at 2:36 pm

First of all, the Republicans DID put forward an innovative alternative plan that would have created twice as many jobs at half the cost. It was rejected. (Ideology. Politics. Can’t grow government without ‘em)

Not one of the House or Senate should have voted on this bill. They DIDN’T READ IT. IT wasn’t even done before last night. Who in their right mind would vote FOR a law that will instantly change forever our nation - and according to our Vice President, has only 2/3 chance of helping. That’s too big of a chance of failure.

I even wonder why the congress didn’t have economists write up a proposal that Congress could then use as a base. I don’t think that happened. Since congress is made up of politicians - the whole Thousand page spending bill is political and we all know it.

Where is the platform for those of us who followed this debacle, vehemently opposed it, made our phone calls, and want no part of any of it? Where do we go?

Back to the polls as soon as possible.

Great, you gave in to the liberal spending left and hurt me and every American. I hope you feel good about how you 3 changed America forever. No one even bothered to read the bill. That certainly makes us citizens of the USA feel real good about our government. $13 a week, could you spare it?

The package will not work. Good luck in 2010

Funny thing I watched Huckabee tonight and have many other times as I wanted him to be our President and not only did he say that tax cuts work he has said as the facts show tax cuts DO work.
The 3 Rep. Senators are NOT patriots nor are they good Americans they are like the low life scum liberals they sided with against the American people our constitution and our way of life in this Republic. We are not a socialist nation as the liberals and the 3 traitors would like us to be.
I am a conservative and Jan you are spewing the propaganda that you eat mindlessly for breakfast, lunch and dinner with snacks of ignorance and stupidity in between.
This bill is the biggest disgrace that has come out of our supposed representatives in our history.

The 3 traitors are from states that are liberal, uninformed ignorant people but even still will not stand for long for their misrepresentation especially since this spendulus bill will fail and despite it the economy will recover anyway but we will be paying off this liberal day at the candy store for many generations to come if the US of A lasts that long with the poor leadership in office the next few years.

oh and TSC, nice link to that article and Obama along with most of the leftist media are lying through their teeth as usual this economy is not the worst since the depression. Reagan inherited it from Carter in 1982 when unemployment was almost 11%, interest rates were 22% plus and inflation was screaming along at unprecedented rates. Reagon cut taxes and the corporate tax rate which resulted in increasing tax revenues to the govt to record highs.
Would be nice if liberals would learn to read and look at facts not fiction in the form of leftist socialist propaganda from the elitists they put into power.

The core issue here seems completely overlooked, although I find that hard to believe in a crowd like this. If you want to understand the real nature of the problem, google the Federal Reserve System. Don’t just read what the Fed has to say about the Fed, read an accurate history of it datig back to Hamilton and Jackson. It’s not Federal and it has no reserves. It’s a group of private bankers and this bill will rack up an unsurmountable debt that your children will have to repay with interest. When Andrew Jackson axed the Federal Reserve System and sent the Euro bankers packing, we went from a deep deficit to a national surplus and enjoyed 70 years of prosperity. (Eventually Woodrow Wilson sold us out in 1913 so he could get to play Mr. President for a few years.) I suggest this link.

Then just meander around the various links that are credible. It’s all very real, very historical and very factual. See how many lawyers, doctors, bankers, brokers, community leaders know the facts. Important homework. Do it. Pass it on.

Thanks so much for posting this information. I have written all three Republican Senators and let them know how discusted I am. They should run on the Democratic ticket next election. I hope the people in their states realize they are NOT representing them and vote them OUT on the next election. We have got to take control back of OUR country.

tsc March 1, 2009 at 10:45 am

No problem BonnieJ. Thanks for writing them. It really does make a difference.

Trembleman July 5, 2009 at 11:39 am

Snowe was never a real Republican anyway.
