So it begins

January 22, 2009

There are so many 1st day things to discuss.  There is Obama’s press corps who were so unorganized that they could not even get their internal phone systems turned on nor apparently spell each others names correctly.

Then there was the embarrassment of Obama’s staff when they bought pens with Lincoln on them (because of their apparent need to compare Obama to Lincoln once more) for Obama to use to sign all the inauguration papers, which were made in China.  The real embarrassment was that they did not realize it until it was pointed out to them as they were trying to sell them with the notation that they were made by American union workers.

And of course you had your obligatory daily trashing of a conservative carried out by our new Vice President Joe Biden who made fun of Chief Justice Roberts’ mistake while reading the oath to Obama.

But there were indeed more important things that occurred.

Today President Obama will issue an executive order reversing the Bush administration policy that bans the use of federal dollars by non-governmental organizations that provide abortions outside the United States.  Actually it was a Reagan policy that was repealed by Clinton and then re-instated by Bush.

So not only does Obama support the “right to choose”, he will offer federal funding to those who perform the abortions.  There is not a whole lot we can do because it is an executive order, but it is something people should know that he has done.  That blood is on his hands, not mine.

He has also made the decision to close the Guantanamo Bay facility and to suspend the war crimes trials of the prisoners being held there.  There has been immediate outrage from families of September 11th victims and of course immediate praise from the ACLU who would like nothing more than to have the opportunity to defend some of these terrorists in America’s civilian courts.

“Sure, I’d take them.  They’re not more dangerous in my district than in Guantanamo… There’s no reason not to put them in prisons in the United States and handle them the way they would handle any other prisoners.” – Rep John Murtha

People like Murtha just do not understand. First we must remember that these are enemy combatants, not American citizens.  Second, we must realize how dangerous these people really are.  I do not want them on American soil where they have easier access to their terrorist friends so they can communicate and coordinate with American cells.  I also do not want their cases in US civilian courts where ACLU lawyers can try to compromise vital intelligence sources and methods.  Maybe I am crazy, but I would like to keep American safe.

And so was the first day.
