Colin Powell recently said that the Republican Party must stop shouting at the world and start listening to minority groups if it is to win elections in the 21st Century.
“I think the party has to take a hard look at itself. There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views – I don’t object to that. But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority.”
Not only did this statement give more insight into why he voted the way he did, but it also shows a very basic problem with America.
Since when did your race have anything to do with what you believe politically? If you are against abortion, it does not matter if you are black, white, Hispanic, or Asian. The same goes for your belief on how the constitution should be viewed by our judiciary branch or any other social, economic, or national defense issue.
We are all Americans, but too many people in this country see themselves as African Americans, or Mexican Americans and they have bred this entitlement culture of what have you done for my people lately. My people? Really?
Colin Powell must understand that in the Republican Party we stand on conservative principles. These principles do not change because of race. You should not change your principles to appease a certain group just to get elected. That just shows that you don’t really stand for anything.
He also said that Americans should stop listening to conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. This was an obvious counterpunch to Limbaugh’s statement that if this wasn’t about race, then he would like to see all the white ultra liberal candidates Powell has endorsed.
First of all, Rush is no worse than the main stream media that sold liberal propaganda on a daily basis over the last 8 years. Powell calls it an attempt of polarization. I call it simply countering the main stream media who are openly biased. And on this point, I think that Rush Limbaugh was right. I talked about Powell’s false arguments for his decision to endorse Obama before the election. The Republican Party had to reveal the dirty side of Obama’s politics because the media refused to do so.
You will always have those on both sides that will go too far, but please do not be so naïve to think that it is limited to conservatives. To say otherwise reveals a lot about you.
