Mr. Gaffe himself gave a whole speech of them a couple of days ago when Biden announced that Obama will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power. Along with this he said that this crisis along with the economic situation we are in will force Obama to make some tough and possibly unpopular decisions and he will need the American people to stand by him. For your education, here are some of the things he said.
“And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you - not financially to help him - we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.”
“Gird your loins…We’re gonna win with your help”
“But he’s gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?’ We’re gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I’m asking you now, I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us.”
“There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don’t know about that decision…Because if you think the decision is sound when they’re made, which I believe you will when they’re made, they’re not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they’re popular, they’re probably not sound.”
The first thought that crossed my mind was how dare he ask for support for unpopular decisions when he himself did not offer the same support to our President during a time of war.
My second thought was how stupid it was of him to basically tell the American people that the entire world knows that Obama is a weak leader so they will certainly test him. Do you think countries such as Russia and those from the Middle East will try to test McCain? Not a chance. He is an experienced, strong leader who has already been tested and they know it.
Because of Iraq, they also know that Biden will fold when times get tough. Despite his knowledge of what could happen if we left Iraq early (by his own words), he still jumped on the ‘pull the troops out now bandwagon’ when times got tough. I also would question his foreign affairs credentials that he is so proud of. Remember this is the guy who wanted to install a federalist system in Iraq that was shot down by just about every expert on the region.
The scarier part of this speech is that he mentioned tough and unpopular decisions when it comes to the economic crisis. Middle class get ready for your tax increase. The possibility for tax increases for the middle class have already been voted on and passed 3 times for the 2009 budget. All of which Obama voted for. Obama’s increased taxes on the wealthy will not create enough revenue to pay for all of his new government programs so he has to get the money from somewhere. Lucky us, we get to be patriotic.
Our only hope is that he will not be able to make these “tough decisions” that are unpopular. He never has in the past. Even when he came out against the war before his U.S. Senate run, he asked his advisor if that decision would damage him politically. Country first…remember.
