The attack machine

September 16, 2008

The Obama campaign recently lashed out at McCain, saying he was running a classless campaign of attack ads.  Forget the fact that Obama launched a new string of attack ads the same day.  He really doesn’t even need to because for the last decade the media and their celebrity counterparts constantly lash out for the Democratic party.  Here are some of the recent activities on the liberal frontlines.

Whoopi Goldberg’s comment to John McCain while he was on the view

“Do I have to be worried about becoming a slave again?”

This comment was in response to McCain’s explanation of his stance on strict interpretation of the constitution.  Anyone who has read the constitution knows that slavery was abolished with a constitutional amendment and was not decided by a Supreme Court decision like roe vs. wade.

Then you have Matt Damon.  He compared Palin’s rise to her position as a vice presidential candidate to a bad Disney movie.  A hockey mom with no experience is a breath away from being the President…scary.  I wonder if he realizes that his candidate has just as little experience, but his movie would show the rise of a politician and lawyer in one of the most corrupt political systems in the country.  That would be Chicago.  I might also mention that he did not change this system, but instead used it to rise in the political ranks.  What makes anyone believe he will do anything different in Washington is beyond me.

The ever popular Oprah has also made her stake in the election this year.  She interviewed Barack Obama, but now has refused to interview Sarah Palin because she doesn’t want to become political.  Don’t worry, I do not know how to respond to that either.  I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that she has endorsed Obama and interviewing Palin would help his opponent with her large female base.

But even when they give both sides equal air time, the questioning is not exactly the same.  I doubt I am the only one who noticed the differences between George Stephanopoulos’ interview of Obama and Charles Gibson’s interview of Sarah Palin.  If you would like me to write something about those interviews just let me know.  Basically it was a friendly soft topic interview for one and an interrogation for the other.  I will let you guess which one was which.

Even with this bias in their favor, the Obama campaign still unnecessarily shows their true colors and launches attack ads.  Really it is ok.  It happens in politics. But don’t try to pretend that you are just a poor defenseless candidate trying to defend yourself from the horrible Republican attack machine.  I am not that gullible.
