As secretive as Democrat Barack Obama tries to be, he has once again made a slip showing how he thinks and what his true intentions are. Just a couple of days ago he said he would delay rescinding President Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if the economy is in a recession.
I don’t know about you, but the immediate and very obvious question that comes to my mind is why would your position on taxes change with different economies? I mean, if it is not good for the economy during a recession, why would it be good for the economy during better times?
There are also very obvious answers to this question. One is that he has begun to be pressured by all of his rich donors. Do you think they really want to pay more taxes? A second is that he knows that raising taxes is bad for the economy, but also knows that he cannot pay for his additional socialistic government programs without the rich footing the bill. And even then most economists say that he still will be in deficit spending mode. Also keep in mind that the progressive tax system in this country already has the people he wants to tax more carrying the majority of the tax burden on their shoulders.
I really do not think that Barack Obama really understands the true problem with government spending. He, like many other more senior members of Congress, spend our tax money like there is no tomorrow. This following statement from Obama illustrates my point.
“John McCain likes to talk about fiscal responsibility, but there is no doubt that his proposals blow a hole through the budget,”
McCain’s proposals that Obama is speaking about are tax cuts for everyone that Bush enacted when he took office. Obviously he thinks that the federal government is not getting enough of your money. Yeah, that is the problem. Before we make this bold assumption, how about we fix what we know to be the main problem with the federal budget. And that is not spending the money we already give them responsibly.
That is what John McCain and Sarah Palin are preaching to the American public and what they are promising to fix in Washington. He has even said recently that he would ask his excessively rich cabinet members to work for $1 a year. John McCain is not saying that Barack Obama is another “tax more so they can spend more” Democrat for no reason. A simple look at the programs Obama wants to enact shows this ever so clearly.
It is just another smoke and mirror technique from a smoke and mirror candidate. And another technique that I will not fall for.

you mention that obama and the senior congress members, “spend our tax money like there is no tomorrow.” i would agree to that, but what about the spending of the current administration? are they at all responsible for the 9.3 trillion, wait 14.7 trillion(GSE’s)national debt?
greg,
I mentioned Obama and other congress members because Congress is responsible for our national budget and spending, not the executive branch. The President and his administration can offer guidance, but cannot spend anything without congressional approval. It is a bi-partisan problem.
As an example, the last budget sent to the President was a much higher number than requested by Bush. So spending = Congress.
When you look at the current deficit, there are many factors. The Iraq War is one because that is not part of the budget. It is a lot of money, but if you have done any research on Iraq and their links to terrorism I think you will see why it had to be done. It was almost an identical situation as Afghanistan except with multiple terrorist organizations.
Other factors were out of our control completely such as natural disasters both here and abroad that our government either had to or chose to respond to with money and logistical support.
The tax refunds once Bush took office in reaction to both the recession he inherited and 9/11 were also a factor.
The last thing is the current mortgage crisis. The government had to step in because so many Americans were not smart enough to buy a house they could afford, nor were smart enough to understand the payment system they signed up for (ie: ARM)
I have no problem with our government spending money to help other countries when disaster strikes, but the underlying problem with the budget isn’t this, but how we spend the budgeted money.
I point out Democrats because they are for bigger government with more government programs, which means more spending of our tax dollars.
My overall point is that McCain/Palin understand this problem and can hopefully start to fix things. They understand the change that is needed.
