Business as Usual

August 18, 2008

Last Friday, Howard Dean, the leader of the Democratic National Committee, made the following comment in an interview on NPR,

”If you look at folks of color, even women, they’re more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the white, uh, excuse me, in the Republican Party…”

From my years of quietly watching politicians and their antics, this has become very typical of the Democratic Party.  Sometimes they are not as outrageous, but they are always whining, complaining, and usually blaming others rather than coming up with realistic solutions to our problems.

Take the Iraq War.  They spent 5 years blaming Bush, but not once did they offer a solution that would make us successful in Iraq.  And leaving the problem for another generation is not a solution.

Take our current energy problem.  They refuse to even take the Republicans’ energy plan to a vote, but they have not offered a comprehensive plan of their own.

Take social security.  Republicans want to reform the program and take it out of incompetent government hands and put it in the public sector.  Again the democrats criticize and only provide a solution that will raise taxes to provide enough money to pay out to the baby boomers.  They have once again prolonged a problem to be solved by another generation.

This, of course, is an election year so if these comments ever make it to the mainstream media, Barack Obama and the rest will chastise Dean for what he has said and make it clear that this is not how they do business.  The only problem is that this is not some minion; this is the leader of the Democratic National Committee and this is not some isolated incident; Dean has made remarks like this ever since he took over the chair.

Again and again the Democratic Party has shown this is indeed how they do business.  If it was not, then Howard Dean would have been removed from his position as chairman long before this pivotal election.
