Democrats Have Fallen

July 14, 2008

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

Oh how far the Democrats have fallen since this inaugural address by JFK in 1961.  Obama likens himself to this Kennedy, the still popular president who himself was nothing more than a great speaker with little knowledge to fulfill the position he held.

 The similarities are endless.

Speeches of hope.  Speeches of change.  Lack of experience.  Lack of knowledge.

These two men hold a naive perspective of the world.  Kennedy, who called the United Nations “our last best hope in an age where the instruments of war have far outpaced the instruments of peace”, thought he could talk even our enemies into promoting peace throughout the world.  It is this same perspective that drives Obama to believe he can talk to our enemies in Iran, Cuba, and North Korea and do the same.  It is a nice thought that makes you feel all tingly inside, but it is not a realistic view of the world.  It comes from a lack of understanding of our enemies; how they operate, and why they wish to bring hatred and death to this world.

Apart from his appealing nature and his party’s message of change, Obama and the rest of the Democratic party have nothing else in common with JFK.  At least he showed a since of what this country is all about with his now infamous line.  Today’s Democratic platform should really read, ‘ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you.’  To them it is the government’s responsibility to provide you a job, retirement, and now they tell you they should provide free healthcare.  And with each new “government service” they provide, the American people are unknowingly becoming more and more dependent on the government to survive.  A principle our forefathers fought so dearly to escape.

It is time we re-discover that this is the land of opportunity, not the land of handouts.  It is time we realize that this is a government of the people, not of power hungry politicians.  It is a time to ask what you can do, not a time to complain.
