I am going to start a series of questions for Obama on various topics so if you have some good ones please send them to me on email and I will try to use them.
Here is round one on Barack Obama’s stance against going into Iraq.
1. You say that we should not have gone into Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein and his regime. Between his invasion of Kuwait and OIF there have been over 50 UN resolutions passed to try to get him to abide by the original resolution from 1991. What other options were left on the table to deal with this problem?
2. During Saddam’s interrogation we learned that he planned on restarting all of his WMD programs to include Chemical, Biological, and Nuclear after he was cleared by the UN. Knowing this information, do you still think we were wrong for going into Iraq?
3. Saddam Hussein’s regime gave direct and in-direct support to the following terrorist organizations: Hamas, Al Qaeda, Abu Nidal Organization, PLF, Abu Sayyaf, and Ansar al-Islam. Knowing this information, do you still think we should not have removed Saddam from power?
4. Saddam Hussein’s regime has a history of direct attacks against the United States. A few examples of these are the attack on the USS Stark, killing 37 US Sailors; the 1993 assassination attempt of former President Bush; and the 500 times US aircraft were fired upon in the No-Fly Zone the year prior to the war. Do you not believe this was reasonable cause to use military force to remove Saddam Hussein from power?
5. The Saddam regime’s atrocities against their own people are well documented to include torture and imprisonment for political reasons, forced internal displacement of 900,000 Iraqis, killing of upwards of 100,000 Kurds in the North and thousands more Shiites in the South, and the death of an estimated 400,000 children due to malnutrition in the 5 years leading up to the war. Do you feel these were sufficient reasons to remove a leader from power?
6. There were 10 major reasons listed for using military action against Iraq in 2002. First of all, can you name them? Secondly, which of the ten reasons do you disagree with and why do you think they are not sufficient to use military force?
