Yay Guns

June 27, 2008

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled what we long knew to be true.  That the handgun ban in Washington D.C. was unconstitutional.  And because they are the awesome organization I always knew they were, the NRA filed a suit in Obama’s hometown of Chicago within minutes of the decision to overturn a similar ban there.

Because they are not so awesome and evidently can totally disregard decisions by the Supreme Court, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), responded to the decision by saying that despite the Supreme Court decision to strike down its gun ban, the District of Columbia will still be able to regulate firearms. Where is the ACLU when you need them?

Barack Obama, the Democratic Presidential candidate, took the opportunity to take 2 opposing positions on the decision in one sentence.  He said he is glad the Supreme Court has bolstered the second amendment’s legal power but stressed that its ruling does not mean the end of gun control.  Everyone knows that Obama was one of the few Senators that supported the DC gun ban, and everyone also knows that he has a history of supporting gun control legislation.  I just hope he doesn’t hurt himself when he falls off the fence.

Sorry to keep it short, but I have to get to work.  Kudos to the Supreme Court.
