Last year Barack Obama pledged to use public financing for the Presidential Election. Actually he challenged all the candidates to also make this pledge. McCain was the only candidate to take him up on the challenge, and now yesterday Obama backed out. The Obama camp has officially declined the use of public financing. Public financing is a grant of 85 million dollars, which also carries a spending limit of the same amount. Its purpose is to stop the influence of big lobbyists and donors who contribute to campaigns.
By declining public financing Obama can now use the millions of dollars he has raised for his campaign from various donors. Obama will claim that his money isn’t coming from big donors, but that is not the point. The point is that he made a public pledge to do something, and now he has broken that promise. Another example of a lawyer saying anything and doing anything to get elected.
I definitely missed something yesterday will the discussions on drilling oil in America so check back later today for an update.
