I know the Democrats have not officially chosen a nominee for the Presidency, but Barack Obama does currently have the lead. This being said, I could not resist any longer breaking down the candidate of change. It seems that even a small town kid such as myself, who clings to his guns and religion, can see through the hypocrisy of his fledgling campaign.
He champions a campaign of change, but he uses the same political tactics even as he criticizes his opponents for using them. Just this week he used the classic fear tactic. He told a group of senior citizens that if they voted for John McCain he would threaten their social security benefits because McCain supports privatization of the program. Say it isn’t so. Obama just tried to scare senior citizens to keep them from voting for McCain. Obama is a very slick speaker, but the problem is that he is rarely truthful. The truth is that privatization of social security is a better option, and would not affect senior citizen benefits. If it affects anyone, it would be younger generations, but those losses would be offset by increased returns in a private account and the 2.2 trillion dollars in the Social Security Trust Fund.
So how would Obama fix social security? Why he would make the wealthy pay their fair share into the program since they only pay taxes on their first $108,000 of income. Once again there is a problem. While the wealthy only pay social security taxes on $108,000, they only receive benefits on that $108,000 so they do pay their fair share. What he really means is their unfair share. He doesn’t want them to pay their share; he wants them to pay FOR Social Security. Obama wants to make a socialist government program even more socialist.
This presidential election be sure to pay attention to what Barack Obama is saying; not how he says it. I certainly will.
